Skinny fat quarters. What to do with them
We have two great-nieces due soon so I pulled out my stash of fat quarters to start making some quilts. Now most of them were bought many years ago when I had just begun to think about quilting classes. probably bought at JoAnns in 5 piece bundles. Well most are not true fat quarters some measuring 17 x20 . I wanted to do the Yellow Brick Road or Turning 20 again patterns but both need correct sized fabric. I am tempted to chop them all into charms. Does anyone have patterns for skinny quarters?

I have made the yellow brick road baby quilt 3 times. I just did a quick peek at the pattern and if I am not mistaken you are pretty close to the actual "cut" size. (I am looking at this pattern on my iPad while riding in the car). If there is not a lot of squaring up of the material couldn't you just reduce you cuts by 1/4 to 1/2 inch to compensate for the blocks? Then if you wanted to make it bigger add borders? I always like to add a 1" finished border before putting on the bigger border like on this quilt. Just a thought.

I am going to iron the fabric and then sit down with ruler, pencil and scrap paper and try to figure it out. I have had the YB road pattern for a long time and never used it. I have finally gotten a bit better at straight even seams and cutting so Am anxious to start. I really like yours! Thank you

If you do end up cutting smaller I would definitely note it on each section of the pattern so everything is correct after the first cut. (Don't ask me how I know)

Re: Skinny fat quarters. What to do with them
I made a YBR quilt for my son, was supposed to be lap size but it ended up bigger because I threw in extra fat quarters. I like scrappy quilts & wanted more variety in the pattern. My point is you could just add a few more fat quarters to make up for the short sized ones. You would just need to total up how many pieces too cut of each square, rectangle etc.
Just a thought.
Have fun
May the road rise up to meet you...
May the wind be always at your back...
May you be in Heaven a half hour before the Devil knows you're dead...
