10 Minute Block
Hi! I am new to the site but not new to quilting. I have a question on this block. What size would I need to cut my fabric if I wanted a 12.5 finished block or would that mess this pattern up?
Thanks!

Re: 10 Minute Block
I took a look also, cant figure it out for sure, but I have some suggestions. First if she used 10 inch squares to make, as she said , a 20 inch block, ( I really think it would have turned out to be half an inch shorter due to the seams) , then why dont you use some scraps, or cheap material and try using six inch blocks , or seven inch blocks. You can do a test run to see how close it comes out with out spoiling good fabric. Even pieces of paper would work for a test piece. Just an idea. Good luck.

She used 5" blocks for the demonstration in the pdf document. I think if you want a 12.5" finished block you need to start with 6.75" squares but don't quote me. Hopefully a block math expert will pop in shortly.

But I also think this block is called something else. Maybe 5 minute block? I'll try to find it because that block might have measurements for bigger blocks.

I was right. She also made a 5 minute block. Isn't it the same block?

Re: 10 Minute Block
The best way is to do a sample block to find your size. I made four quilts using the 10 minute block, I used a 7 inch square and my blocks were 13 inches finished.
Good luck!

So is the center of the block going to have 5 layers of fabric? Because only 1/4 of it is showing, so there should be 3/4 underneath it, and a layer of the big block, as well. Makes my head spin.

The 10 minute block has 3 seams. The 5 minute block has one seam, it's a flying geese ~ instead of on point square in a square.
