Help! I need ideas for a Valentine's Day table topper for a [B]round[B] table. I will also need Easter and patriotic/July 4th. I foolishly started with autumn and Christmas for my sister and she now wants more! It needs to be relatively quick and easy. TIA!
Check out the Connecting Threads web site. They have a lot of kits, and most are inexpensive. Many of the kits include the backing fabric as well.
How about a big Dresden plate?
If you have the Lil Twister tool there is a cute Valentine's pattern (I'm almost done with one as we speak), for what could either be a wall hanging or a table topper.

I did round dresdens for my sister's table. I used the M* dresden tool, sewed them together as-is (didn't make points on the ends) then trimmed and bound the outer edge to finish it.
Just find either a few fat quarters in colors you want for each holiday and repeat each 4 or 5 times around the circle.
I agree about the Dresden Plate. You could make them reversible. Just a thought, sew the blades together, don't put the circles in yet, sew the back and front together (right sides) then use the center hole to turn, press, then cut one circle to fit and the other circle a lot larger. Sew the small circle on, flip, then sew the larger circle on. The back side will look like a line of quilting.
If you make them like Squeaky suggests with no points but round, you should be able to cut a circle of batting and insert in through the center hole. You could anchor the batting down by quilting 1/4" from the edge all the way around and when you attach the circles.
Don't for get to press the seams open on the blades.
Also, for doing the circles, I like using fusible web sewn to the right side of the circle, trim with pinking shears, cut a small slit in center, turn, and press down on the Dresden and then it won't shift around while you sew it down.

Jenny's table toppers are all long...I need one for a round table. I have thought about the Dresden and will probably make her one at some point but I really wanted something with hearts for Valentine's Day. I prefer pieced over applique. Any ideas?

You could put 4 heart blocks with a border then round it off.
Option: Christmas tree skirt tutorial on MSQC, then. She shows how to cut it into a hexagon shape, but you can also cut off the finished square of this (or whatever other pattern you like) so it is circular or is a square with scallops -- which would help give the feel of a round topper. Good luck.
