My wonderful LQS is closing and I went to the sale, like I don't have a stash for the next five years. I wanted to do a quilt of batiks but was trying to get a little more experience first. I have heard how wonderful batiks are to work with, sooo, I bought 7 batiks to make a quilt at the sale. What patterns do you think show off the beautiful batiks the most without being too difficult for a newbie. Oh! This shop was also great for classes, I was only able to do one 12 block sampler quilt with them but learned lots and have gone to them for help many times. Will miss the girls more than the fabrics.
I made Bonnie Hunter's Pineapple Blossom quilt in batiks and really liked it. The block is easy to make using strips and squares. I didn't use sashing on my quilt.
Beth, it all depends on what you consider "easy" the Zipper, Friendship Strip (made with the small binding tool 2 1/2 x 8 1/2) are fast, fast and easy. Not knowing the colors you've chosen, if they are bright, you could sash with black and make them pop. I'd go thru all of the tutorials and see which one would fit the bill for you.
I've seen the hunters star pattern done in batiks and its beautiful. And simple if you use this link. Cascade Quilts: Hunter's Star tutorial. I've made one hunters star with this pattern and it was super easy and quick. Batiks would be fantastic!
Thanks for the suggestions! My colors are teals, Browns, rust, creams. I did see the post of the hunters star earlier tonight and really liked it. I may do a practice square with some scraps and go with it. I had also thought of a rail fence.
