Does a walking foot wear out?
I have been having all kinds of trouble while putting together a puzzle quilt top. Missed stitches, bunched fabric, chewed fabric, you name it. Rethreaded machine, rewound the bobbin and put back in, changed needle again. Just for fun after a lot of pirate talk I took off the walking foot and put on a plain one - worked like a brand new machine! Does a walking foot wear out? Is there something I should be adjusting? I'm stumped.
Re: Does a walking foot wear out?
I had a walking foot once that stopped working for me. I never could figure out why so I bought a new one.
Re: Does a walking foot wear out?
I also had one quit working. I never did figure out what happened. Did you try oiling it? Of course, I have no idea how to oil a walking foot but have read during my search to fix mine that some people do. I finally decided it would be easier just to buy a new one.
Re: Does a walking foot wear out?
I would say yes nothing last forever I had one the was fairly new but the fork was bent on it and it would give me a fit, so I replaced it and now no troubles. hope this helps.:icon_tup:
Re: Does a walking foot wear out?
Are you sure you have the fork attached to the needle bar? That will cause all the problems you described above. If you haven't used a walking foot in awhile, it is easy to forget this important step.
Re: Does a walking foot wear out?
My walking foot would stick in the "up" position, for lack of a better description. I found on this forum that you can attach the fork with a rubber band to the needle bar. It helps it work, but I have mixed feelings about my walking foot. Kind of a love/hate relationship.
Re: Does a walking foot wear out?
Yes, anything with moving parts can and will wear out.
Re: Does a walking foot wear out?
I had one 'walk" out of my sewing room. It sure would be nice if it came back.
Re: Does a walking foot wear out?
I had one wear out before I finished the first quilt with it! DH took it apart and found the metal pieces worn out. I bought a generic one and works beautifully.
Re: Does a walking foot wear out?
As I complained here on the forum about my noisy chunky generic walking foot, I was adviced to clean and oil it, and I could immediately see some improvement. By the way, many thanks to whomever gave me the advice. It is not perfect, but way better.
