Smile HELP! Patches not same size>

Several years ago my DD started to make a log cabin quilt. She is not a sewist and had finished about twenty patches. Last week she got her patches out and asked me to finish her quilt. She told me she needed 8 more patches. I made the patches. When i went to square all the patches up {hers and mine} i noticed that hers are smaller and no 2 are the same size. I don't know how to put these all together to make even rows. We don't have enough material to start over and it has been so long i can't find the material anywhere. The differences in sizes are 1/4th to 1/2 inch. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks, Sandy.

The only thing I can think of is to sew a solid strip around all 4 sides of each block and then trim them all to the same size. It will give you sort of a wonky sashed log cabin, but short of ripping everything she sewed together apart and resewing, that is all I can think of.

Had thought about some sort of sashing, just not sure how to put it together. had even thought of just stacking them up, cutting yhem all and making a {disappearing log cabin"}. LOLThanks for the suggestion.

There is an article on about.com on using freezer paper to fix uneven squares received in swaps. If you google, you should be able to find it. Title said problem squares. I can't get link to copy with phone, but if you can't find it I'll be home sat and can get link.
I think u may be able to fix it pretty closely using this method (if u don't have a lot off by half inch).

If that doesn't work, sashing each block or sashing sets of 4 or 6 using ones with closest measurements as a set, could work.

Add extra "logs" around each one then trim. That way you can introduce a new fabric but have it look like it's intentional.

I'm with Vonnie. Extra logs them re-square them all. And tell your daughter not to put a WIP away until she fixes these goofs first, whule fabric is still close at hand. Wonderful of you to fix it for her. Hope she appreciates Mom's magic.

Thank you allfor the great ideas. Think i will try both the extra logs and the sashing. Will surely check out the freezer paper idea too. Have simply put it aside for a few days until frustration level with it has decreased.
