Fabric suggestions needed please...
A very dear friend is having her first baby in March, a girl. The nursery colors are basically mint green, pink, and grey, with a woodland animals theme. I have been doing some searching for the 'perfect' fabric for this quilt, probably my most important quilt so far
It's special because I've known her since she was a teenager, and she used to babysit my girls on a regular basis (now my girls will most likely babysit for her at some point!!).
I am planning on using Eleanor Burns 'Geese in the Garden' pattern because I think it will lend itself well to the nursery.
I did come across 'Sweet Home by Melly & Me' - I'm considering using the pinks from this line, and possibly using the pink main yardage with the little neighborhood scene as a scalloped border. The vines will add the green, along with a narrow green border before the big border, and I may do grey binding to complete the look. My only hesitation is the border fabric is not really 'woodland', but I could easily do a white border, or one of the other fabrics... decisions, decisions...
I also like the 'fancy free' line by Lori Whitlock for Riley Blake but neither of these have much green - do ya think the quilt will be too 'pink'??
The other idea (now you know how my mind swirls with quilting stuff when I lay down at night!) is to do solids for the geese (three rows - so pink, grey, mint).. and do a bold floral border with those colors in it...
If anyone knows of another fabric line that might work, I would absolutely love suggestions!! Thanks
Norma

Oh how fun to do a very special quilt for your friend! You know some blues lend themselves to "appearing" gray... I just saw on the New Years Special today a really cute woodland theme Jelly Roll -- Maybe these complimentary colors could help??

Can't wait to see what you come up with! Oh also there is one further down the New Years Specials list that has all greens? Some are mint, some are more hunter green
Good luck

I like your first idea. Sounds like this will grow into toddlerhood with her. Whatever you do, I am sure it will be beautiful. You can always do one of each (enabling here). Let us see how it comes out.

I don't know how well you like to work with minky or cuddle fabric but I did a rag quilt with two colors.
There is this kit that you could change out the animal https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop...irl-cuddle-kit
There is this one that you might be able to add some grey. It has lots of forest animals but is in bright colors https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/browse/3397

check fabric.com . They have 2 or 3 pages of woodland fabric . I just entered "woodland" .

I really like the colors in the pic you posted. One thing to think about is that if it isn't too babyish and is a bit larger than the baby quilt, the child would be able to grow with it a bit. I figure if I go a lot of work, I want it to last a while. The fabric in the pic looks like it could be appropriate for a long time. : )
