Re: Flying geese question
yes you will need a quarter in side seam as well. thank goodness you have a deb tucker ruler. I think the wing clipper is the most accurate geese have you watched her tutorial for the wing clipper, and used her method. it's foolproof.
Re: Flying geese question
I also use Deb tucker and mine come out great
Don't know why your having so much trouble hope someone can help
Maybe take fabric and ruler to local q store and get help

Re: Flying geese question
You don't need the 1/4-inch seam on the sides - when you sew blocks to the sides and the bottom, it'll finish off with side points.
When you're looking at your single block you may be forgetting to take into account that the bottom will come up 1/4-inch too.
Try folding your block in 1/4-inch on the sides and bottom to see what the finished block would look like and you'll see that the points are there.

This is what tripped me up before. I kept thinking I'd done the measurements wrong because the side points were chopped off. It wasn't until I sewed the bottom seam that the points magically reappeared again:icon_rolleyes:
Re: Flying geese question
I use Eleanor Burns Quilt in a Day flying geese template. Works great. I always have 3 points. There is space on each side, but that is the seam allowance to be sewn to assemble. I tend to have trouble keeping the points there when I assemble! If the seam allowance is not same as the allowance on the FG...the point can go away!

I have several of the QIAD flying geese rulers in various sizes. Really love them. Confusing at first but once I did a few they went very quickly. And I liked being able to do 4 at a time.
Re: Flying geese question
Thanks everyone! I did try to fold up the sides and bottom, and if I am careful, I will have points on the sides also. I am going to try Eleanore Burns rulers now also.Sometimes being a beginner means I have to really practice a new piece before I can get it right all of the time.
Re: Flying geese question
Meghan - you can find the templates/rulers here: https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop...Quilt+In+a+Day
But they should also be available at your local quilt store. Do you have a Joann's in Quebec? I imagine any large fabric store should have them.
Re: Flying geese question
I have several different rulers and have found the easiest and faster way is with the easy angle rulers. Watch Bonnie Hunter on YouTube " flying geese the easy angle way. You can make different sizes (not just 2)with NO trimming down. Also can use the rulers for different things.
Re: Flying geese question
Thanks for the info. I do happen to have the two rulers, and have been practicing today again. I think my geese are getting better, almost perfect! Thanks again.
