Default My Sunbonnet Sue's and Sam's

Here are the Sunbonnet Sue's and Sam's I have made for my quilt. It will be interspersed with a few other blocks. hst and qst I believe. My question is Should I put a ribbon band on the hat and bonnet? What color would I use match the dresses or the bonnets and what color for Sam? and a button on Sam's suspendar?

    Those are darling.

I think I would just tack a band on each and see what you think, then you can play with the colors.

Instead of ribbons, you could use a pretty embroidery thread and one of the decorative stitches on your machine.

    BTW, those are adorable!

Wow...love that little couple! Been around a long time! My first baby quilt for my baby was with these little guys! I'd put a band on the hat simply cause it is a large piece of solid color and to me...it catches my eye first and foremost...thus demeaning the rest of the figure. A band would break up the large image and make it blend in better as part of the figure and not the main focal point. Just my opinion. And just looking again at it...the Sam....some of them look like he is bending forward, hanging his head down, while others look like he is looking upward. I think the darker the body, is what makes it look (at first impression) like he is looking down while the lighter body he is looking up...I am thinking because his arm is dark, overalls are dark, so you can't see the arm for direction. Dark arm, light overalls looks up, dark arm, dark orveralls looks down.

I searched sunbonnet sue and overall sam images on the internet and came up with dozens of styles , these are the ones I liked best. Then I just enlarged the pattern to the size I wanted and went to work. Mine are on a 10 inch block.

Very vintage looking. If it is for a new baby, I would use decorative stitches. If older than 3 or so buttons would work. Whatever you do, it looks great.
