Default Finished quilt is too long. How can it make it wider?

I'm pretty new to quilting, but I've made three quilts. They were supposed to be throw quilts but ended up being longer than I wanted. They were gifts to husband and kids. If I want to go back and make them wider, what is the easiest way to do that? Is there a tutorial out there? I'm guessing it would be like adding two long quilted pieces to the main one? Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you
    Sher

Have you already quilted the quilts? If not, prior to quilting, you could add borders to the sides only.

Quilts are done and being used. Kids dont' mind theirs since they like to wrap up in them, but hubby wants his wider.

Can you post a picture? That would help.

without seeing a photo, I'd make 2 borders, sandwich and quilt them then attach it like you would Quilt As You Go quilts. Oh. remove the binding first.

You can work on the borders while hubby uses the quilt.

Time to make hubby another quilt, me thinks!
BobW, ravelim and quiltingaway like this.
    Be warned. I am BORED.
    This could be dangerous.

When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
    They are usually 90 degrees.

A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

I have this same problem. I made a zigzag/chevron pattern with scrap blocks I made with foundation papers...made the zigs and the zags and Ohio star blocks..put them together but forgot to do some math....and it came out narrow but long enough! Because I made the zigzags to go around the quilt and making a nice connected corner, I can't add another row of stars... so now have to figure how to make a "finished looking" quilt...wider without making it look like I ....um.. just added borders to the sides! And being scrappy...there isn't a main color to work with other than white and a white border would make it look stupid...so...don't feel bad, it happens to many!

Maybe you can add white borders with appliqué on them that uses the same fabric that you used in the rest of the quilt.
