    Cool Design Ideas

Hello, Ladies and Gentlemen. I have a newbie question and now sure how to do what I want to do (lol)

I have this idea in my head and I can picture the layout (well sort of) of purple, lavender and white blocks in different angles with lavender binding and a white back.

Knowing what I want is the easy part, putting it down on paper is another issue. How do you all go about executing an idea that you have into reality? Do you sketch it out yourself in a notebook? Do you have an app for that on your cell phone or is there a computer generated program that anyone knows of?

    Thank you!!

I look at tutorials and see if something seems right (and do-able !) . And I plot/plan out on graph paper .

I don't have the experience that some have but I use something similar to this that I have made on a spreadsheethttps://www.flickr.com/photos/jenib/4463183009/
There could be an easier way but this is all I have for now. I have read on here that some use graph paper.

    Good luck.....and welcome!!

I sketch on graph paper. That gives me the proportion because after I get the design I can convert squares to inches and know the size of everything on the block.

Graph paper, but you can use Word, and I've seen articles about other software like Gimp, which is open source and free.
Inkscape is a vector program and free.

At the bottom of the page there are links to Gimp and Inkscape
Link to Libre Office which is an open source office app like MS Word. There are tutorials for Word.

This link also mentions an app for the iPad. (not free)

I also use graph paper so I can get the scale and measurements right, and I'll use colored pencils or my son's crayons to to see if in actually the colors look as good as they did in my head.
I have seen quilt design software out there too.
Sonic is learning to sew and quilt. .....
