placemats ??

I need to make some placemats for someone. They will not be pieced, but all one fabric. (Cleveland Browns) My question is can I get 6 placemats out of 1 yard of fabric. What size do those of you who have made placemats make them.

I have always made placemats about 12 x 18 so you should be able to get 6 on a yard.

thanks April. That is what I was thinking. Just wasn't sure that was a good placemat size.

that will probably just be a solid brown. not sure how I will finish the edges. might just bring the back up over the edge for binding

That fabric is 60" wide, well if it's like the Seahawks it is. I can get 15 bowl cozies out of one yard. Just remember it's directional!

I was going to say this same thing. I make mine 15x20 as I like a large placemat to put plate AND glass on! But it takes 1/2 yard for the front AND back with a bit left over for the scrap bucket. Then I use a flat batting and some binding.

Ah. I went back and saw that it is 58" wide. If I cut them 18 1\2 x 12 1\2 I can get 3 across and 3 down if I buy 1 1\4 yard. Thanks for pointing that out. Maybe it will be 6 place mats and a table runner too

Good idea. Will probably just divide the 58" into 3 pieces and then decide on a width. That would be 19 x maybe 14. That should give her what she is looking for. This is a project I have to gather and take to DC when we go down for Christmas.
