Default Help me calculate? It's been a long time, I'm rusty!!

If there's an online calculator or chart that would help, please let me know!

I want to make a twin size quilt, the pattern I want to use is 8 inch blocks. How many 8 inch blocks do I need to make the quilt! I will do borders too, but I do not intend to put sashing between blocks.

Would seven blocks across by nine blocks down give me a good starting point before adding borders?

    (7 x 8inch blocks - seam allowances = ??)

    (9 x 8 inch blocks - seam allowances = ??)

What is the size of a twin quilt??

    Thanks for any help!!

Is 8" the finished size of your block? If so you just need to multiply the finished size by the number of blocks across & down.
    So 7 x 8 = 56. & 9 x 8=72
Then you can decide how wide you want the borders. Sorry I don't know the size of a twin bed. I always measure anyway to make sure I allow enough for the drop on the sides & bottom.
    Good luck.
May the road rise up to meet you...

May you be in Heaven a half hour before the Devil knows you're dead...

if you download this app - it's free btw it also gives dimensions for different size quilts.
here's a quick link for you though for dimensions.
Suggested Quilt Measurements for Standard Bed Sizes | 100 Blocks Volume 3 | Quiltmaker

Suggested finished size for a twin would be 68x89 inches. Assuming your 8 inch blocks are unfinished, you would wind up with blocks 7 1/2 inches. 68/7.5 = 9 blocks across. If you used 8 blocks across it would allow for a 3-4 inch border. 89/7.5 = 11 - so 10 blocks down would give you room for a 3-4 inch border.

    I'd make 80 blocks . . .

    Be warned. I am BORED.
    This could be dangerous.

When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
    They are usually 90 degrees.

A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

I have that, and didn't see where I could find either the standard measurements or put in the block size to see how many I need for that size quilt.... Clearly I haven't used it extensively!

I use the batting size as a guide for quilt sizes.
Twin Size Batting is 70 by 90. As long as your quilt is a few inches smaller than those dimensions, you will be fine.

I like using MyWebQuilter.com: Quilt Block Patterns, Quilt Patterns, Quilt Design Software and Quilting Tools to figure out backing, border, and binding yardage. Hope this helps.
