    Default Bias binding tool

I've ordered the scalloped edge tool but will also need bias tape making tools. I'm guessing one for cutting on the bias and one for folding the tape. I was looking at the folding tool and notice different sizes. What size should I order for the 2-1/2 binding I usually do for non-scalloped binding??

I don't use anything to fold the binding.....I just fold it in half and press. Even though I have the binding tool, most times I don't even use it. I just grab my little ruler and cut the binding at a 45 degree angle to join it.

Jenny has a wonderful tutorial on how to make your own bias tape:

Once cut, you only need to fold it once lengthwise and press.

I have two bias folding tools, but I only use them ocasionally for garments or for appliquéing.

I don't use any gadgets other than rotary cutter, ruler, mat. Quiltville has a great tutorial on bias bindings.

I would recommend not spending money on the binding tool. I purchased it and have never gotten it to work correctly. I've learned to do my binding without a tool - I think Jenny's ultimate binding tutorial is a good one. I will hopefully use the binding tool to make a braid quilt so it will not be a complete waste of money.

I purchased the small binding tool, and it's very convenient not only for finishing the binding (works like a charm and exact every time) but also for the Friendship Braid strips. It also comes in handy for trimming off oopsies from 2 1/2 inch strips. Bias binding is a dream as well, with Jenny's tube tut, and it's continuous, done and done!

No special binding tools here, either. (Lucky save -- autocorrect thought I might mean s*xual binding tools, not special binding tools. *blush*.) You can make your binding without them.

I'm with Carrie J. I purchased the binding tool because sometimes I was having a problem with the bindings (other times I did it just fine) but also I wanted to do the friendship braid. The friendship braid is still on my list of things to do and using it on my bindings has made life easier. I'm glad I have it here as part of my tools.
