I use fleece on quilt backs but have never pieced a fleece top.

I think the envelope method is going to be a nightmare of folded fleece along the edges, or you are going to end up with a lot of fleece scooted towards the end of the seam line and have a bunch of extra fabric to try to squeeze into the end.

Do you have dual feed on your machine, or a walking foot? Definitely use it if you do.

My suggestion is to take your pre-shrunk flannel, lay it on the biggest table you have, doesn't matter if it hangs off the edges, and put your quilt on top. Scoot it to one side so you have that side's edges supported, and use your hand and see if you can press/coax the fleece to flatten out. Start in the center, where the fabric is the tightest from the piecing, and work your way out to the edge. It should stick to the flannel pretty well, making it easier for you. Sometimes fleece bounces back so to speak, after it's been stretched, with a little coaxing. You may also be able to stretch that center out little by little to get the edges to smooth out more.

If YES, it does flatten out, then I suggest using a spray baste and baste/quilt as normal.

If NO, it will not flatten enough to continue, then I suggest fixing it to make it lay flat. Even if you just fold the excess and hand sew it. Fleece is VERY forgiving and hides all KINDS of boo boos.

    Your quilt is BEAUTIFUL!

Um, I hate to mention this, but this is an old thread/post - over two years old. The person who started it hasn't even been on here for a long time.
