Re: Anyone make a clam shell quilt?
I'd rather have salmon w/freshly squeezed lemon myself....but I do like that quilt pattern!

Latifah also has an outstanding tutorial on YouTube of the method to sew her clams. Ifound this very helpful, and I strongly encourage you to watch this and consider using her technique. It makes a lot of sense to me. Similarities to how Jenny sews the Drunkard's Path units on her tutorial.

Thanks so much Midge! That was a great tute!
I think I will feel a little more comfortable with the applique method, but with the sewing machine.

Claire I have two other patterns too. I just need a three sided coin:lol:

I can see why you would want to use Poppy's method, esp. with smaller clams. I think Latifah's method is great for big clams. BTW, the fabrics she used in that tutorial are darling.

It's really cute. It was one of the first charm packs I bought. I made a D9P. It was darling.
Re: Anyone make a clam shell quilt?
Lorie, back when I was a young girl, I helped my grandmother make one. I spent a few weeks cutting out those clam shells and then would help her stitch them by hand. I may still have one of her tops that never made it to the quilting frame somewhere. I have been thinking about this design as well but must say that the memory of cutting all those does not make me smile one bit. Perhaps if there were die cuts, lol. But then, the tedium of stitching those would make me re think it.
I love the pattern and it is a stunning quilt when done. Just more work than I would ever consider at this point. Good luck!
Re: Anyone make a clam shell quilt?
That's funny, Karen! I agree with Sandy, I would do better pressing and then machine sew them on.
Re: Anyone make a clam shell quilt?
WOW - very involved pattern. I like the looks - but don't think I would try it - well, maybe a pillow. :)

Saw this on Pinterest! Could be a variation of Drunkards path. Maybe Jenny would take this on for a tutorial!

Very clever! I forgot I posted this!
Re: Anyone make a clam shell quilt?
That looks a lot easier. I've done drunkards path, made a pillow. Thanks Lorie, for the info,
