Re: Thread Color For Binding
I have never done hand binding, I use the machine to bind, but I have always matched the thread color to the binding itself not to the quilt back. Another option would be to use a neutral thread, which would hopefully blend with both the binding and the backing. Good luck with your hand binding!! Let us know how it goes!!

I use thread to match the binding.

I also only do mine with the machine, my hands have that old lady thing going on hahahha But I'd go with Susan's idea, color of the binding - Have not used it, but there is a clear or invisible thread that may work well?
Admire ppl who can hand sew, can't wait to see yours completed good luck

Re: Thread Color For Binding
I match the thread color to the binding, always!
Re: Thread Color For Binding
I wouldn't worry about the odd stitch showing, it's hand made after all. Whatever colour you use, the stitches will show one way or another if they are going to.
Re: Thread Color For Binding
I use the color of the binding.
Re: Thread Color For Binding
Match the thread to your binding. That way if any of your stitches show they will blend.

I agree to match the binding.
Re: Thread Color For Binding
I always match to the binding as well.
Re: Thread Color For Binding
I guess I'm the odd man out here. I hardly ever match the thread to the binding. I have C & C extra-strong hand-quilting threads in white, black, navy, a medium neutral (kind of a khaki) and a med/dark gray. I would use a medium neutral on it. Using the extra strong hand-quilting thread allows you to tug a bit after every few stitches and they will barely show. Take your time and your stitches will be fine!
Re: Thread Color For Binding
I have always listened to Jenny and many others that say to match the color thread to your binding. It's not a rule that needs to be followed, it's just what I do. You should use whatever you think will be best for your quilt. It's ok if some of your stitches show..after all, they would all show if you sewed it by machine, right? :)
Re: Thread Color For Binding
I use thread of the same color than the binding, the same that I use thread the same color than the appliquéed piece when I do needle turn appliqué. It just blends with the fabric and is hardly visible, no matter how big your stitches are.
