The nice thing about 505 is that you can reposition it. I would work on half the quilt at a time - or even a third. You might have been in a bit of a hurry on your second because the first one went so easy. I press my sandwich to get the rest of the wrinkles smoothed.
I reposition small areas at a time, but of course, you have to do both sides. Be careful about ironing out the remaining wrinkles...it should be just pressing...don't want to stretch fabric.
I have also used the tube idea but not a cardboard one, I have a pool noodle (several actually)
