I think (please read that as I may be very wrong) this is done with the "dog feed" down. Maybe???

She might of missed that in the video-will have to go back and watch again. Isn't that just moving the dogfeed down? But, I don't recognize the attachment that she used.

She is doing what is known as Free Motion Quilting or FMQ. You drop your feed dogs and use your darning foot. You are the one responsible for moving the fabric, not you machine when doing this technique.

I didn't know that that's what a darning foot looked like. I'd never seen one. Off to see if I can get one for my machine. Thanks, Karen!

It's free motion quilting and that is just the attachment for that machine. And the feeddog needs to go down for that. I need to practice mine more!

    Karen beat me to it.

Candy had tuts on her site to practice different FMQ styles. I think I'd like to play with it-once I track down the darning foot.

Hi Susann, Google Alerts sent me here to this forum. I replied to your comment on my blog the other day, but it got bounced back. Glad folks here could help you out! Here's my original answer:

    "I use 2 different feet:

A walking foot is really useful when your feeding several layers of fabric and/or batting under the needle. So, for straight line quilting or sewing the next column of fabric onto the one just quilted.

A darning foot, also called a free motion foot. I use this with the feed dogs set so they are dropped down, so that the quilt can only move when and where I lead it, allowing me to free motion quilt in any direction."

    Hope this helps!
