    Default Mug Rugs

I ask this question on facebook, but decided it was time to figure out how to use the forum. I tried making the mug rugs with the template in Quilting Quickly magazine for the periwinkle quilt. When I iron it, it doesn't lay flat. One triangle is too big. Is the template in the magazine not the same as the one used in the tutorial? They were so cute I couldn't wait for you to get more templates in the store. I wanted to make one immediately. I was very careful to make sure I cut the template just as it was printed.

Yes, the template used in the mug rug tutorial is different. I also have the "old" whacky web template, tried it and it did not work. I started looking for the reason and went back to the tutorial. The template in the tutorial for some reason did not look the same so I went into the template catagory and guess what? its NOT the same. I called MSQC and was told that the template IS different and had been remade. So, I cut my pieces a little more narrow and got them to fit but if you don't want to figure out the difference in the cut then you will have to get the "NEW" WHACKY WEB template and oh yeah, its currently out of stock. I wish they would notifiy us when the "renew" a template or do a tutorial with the new one, it would be nice to know that the "old" templates won't work.

When you ironed it, did you use steam? Each of those pieces of cut fabric all have bias edges. You have to be very careful and press the fabric, not iron back and forth and it is better to use no steam so the fabric has less chance to stretch. If it is just one piece you may be able to fix it by just taking your seams in a little bit on that piece.

The template in the magazine should be the same as the new plastic template.
