Re: how big are charm pack squares??
It seems the standard size is 5 inch squares. But, be careful when you buy precuts that they are actually 5 inches. I have seen them different sizes especially like on ebay or etsy where they cut them.
If you are cutting them yourself, you get to determine the size. Just remember, the smaller the charm the smaller the pieces are in the disappearing patterns.
I stuck with 5" when I did a window pane disappearing 9 patch. I got 12 out of each fat quarter. I also took my time and cut it so I would have a 3" X 21" strip of fabric. Those left over strips could make a nice scrappy border.
Re: how big are charm pack squares??
Would you all just quit picking on Wendy? She's got a wedding coming up . . .
Re: how big are charm pack squares??
If you are going to do the disappearing four patch you might be happier making your fat quarters into larger squares. Say 9" squares would waste little and be much easier to deal with. I would cut your four patch maybe 2" from the center instead of 1".
I made one with a layer cake and loved how it turned out. I can'r imagine making one with 5" squares.:(

That's a good idea. I don't think I would do 5'' squares either. That's the reason I mentioned the d9p with sashing. Get's rid of those little pieces.

How about a DD4P? (Sry, gotta pimp my own design here! :D)

Anyway, I love fat quarters. They are my new best thing to buy. You get a good amount of fabric in a variety. Those colors are going to make an awesome quilt. Cant wait to see it.
You'd THINK I would know this by now eh? But in my defense, we can't buy charm packs here in Canada like y'all can south of the border...so I never work with them. SO y'all just back off! :icon_bah::icon_bah: (mostly you Karen...LOL!) I'm teasing of course...love you all! :icon_hug::icon_hug:
I really like the D9P...but might check out the other links. Need to get some more white!

Wendy, I was wondering where you went. You are too funny. Have fun shopping
Re: how big are charm pack squares??
In your defense, I have seen 6" squares being sold as charm squares.
I too recommend a D9P. It is my favorite pattern for charm packs.
Sew Preeti Quilts: Quilt # 2
Sew Preeti Quilts: Quilt # 4 - Down to Earth
And I am working on another one...
Re: how big are charm pack squares??
Welllll...we can buy them here, just not all that readily! Lol
