Default Home Decor fabric for purses?

I found this beautiful home decor fabric at Joanne's and thought it would make great cushions for patio chairs. Then I realized it's 100% cotton with a stain resistant finish and a heaver hand than quilters cotton - but still 100% cotton. Sounds perfect for a purse or beach bag. What do you think? Any cautions? Would you do it?

Gorgeous! I would absolutely use this for bags - I buy home dec fabric from JoAnn's specifically for that purpose Use some sort of stabilizer with it (thickness depending upon how floppy or stiff you would like the bag to be). I find it easy to work with because it is heavier (a bit stiffer naturally) than regular cotton.

The picture is really pretty. Since it's Waverly you could probably get some great coordinating fabrics and make a really special bag. However, when I clicked through to look at it the website said it's no longer available. Hope you can find it in the store! I'd go for a bag for sure. Maybe not a beach bag, might not do so well if it gets wet. I'd stick with canvas or Sunbrella for that use. So many people on this forum with bag expertise. Maybe they have a different view. I've trimmed some canvas bags with home dec fabric from my stash for shopping bags and they come out fine.

There is my bag on the top right! I use it all the time The picture turned around. It's the bottom left

I made a tote from some for a market bag. I'm not sure what furniture you would have covered it in though. lol

I have had different results when washing Home Dec Fabrics. If you plan to wash and or dry, just do it before you cut. Otherwise, have at it!

Midge - I got it on sale on Friday - so I do have it. At the time I asked about washing it and the lady said - just do it on delicate. Great idea to get some more to coordinate.

Lorie - I was just going to make DD a cushion for her white rocking chair that she is putting at her new apt - but it has butterflys on it and her roomie hates butterflys so I thought I'd use it for a purse and use one of the others I got on sale for her cushion. Your bag is beautiful btw - I kinda knew I could count on you.

Songbird857 - your bags are gorgeous! You do wonderful work too! I think I might even use soft and supple because I like well formed bags. Then again I do like the look of your bags- what do you use?

And thanks, Bubba and Slokarma- for your vote of confidence!

Through my 'hoarding' years I have collected many drapery and upholstery fabric sample books - they make wonderful bags and, in fact, I have plans to make Steven's Dresden template bag using some I recently grabbed up. I have also been making zippered bags using the in-the-hoop feature on my embroidery machine - and they all use drapery and upholstery samples.

As an aside on these sample books, quite often some of the fabric is a lighter weight and I do have what is called a Post Card quilt block started using some of the light weights . . . another UFO that needs to be pulled back to the top of my craft table . . .
    Be warned. I am BORED.
    This could be dangerous.

When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
    They are usually 90 degrees.

A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

I just wanted to clear something up. Norma (songbird) made me the bicycle tote in a recent swap. I really like the size.
