45 inch border problems
Cutting fabric for the borders, I realized that I was going to need a seamed border and that the seam would fall right at the end of the border; the fabric is just a shade short of what I need. I'm thinking that a seam right at the end would look weird. Would I be better off by sewing a couple lengths of the border fabric together and then cutting them from midpoint to midpoint to get the seam to fall in the middle of the border or thereabouts? How do you do this when you have a fabric join close to a corner of your quilt borders?

if it is a fabric that the joins won't show after quilting I don't usually worry about it, but if the joins will show, I usually cut and move them back 6-10 inches

If I have enough fabric I move the joints away from the end. If it is just the last two borders that are short I try to do corner stones . If it is a play mat or picnic quilt that I know is going to get lots of on the ground use, grass stains etc I do what ever looks ok, not perfect.

Sometimes I even move the seam to the middle, if I have enough fabric. Use the diagonal seam; it looks better. Just don't put it right at the end of the strip. I make my baby quilts ~52" long, so I always have to piece the long borders. Once the quilt is finished, it barely shows. JCY

If you have enough fabric to do so, piece your border so the seam falls well away from the end.

I try to get my seams in the middle of each side, even if it means putting in a seam where I don't really need one, just so all of the sides match (if that makes sense!).

If I have to piece the border I make each side opposite. For instance, one border has the short section bottom left, the other has it top right. Does that make sense?
And once it's quilted, you have to look closely to find the seam.
