stumped on the braid quilt
I cut my jelly rolls with the binding tool and lined it up like Jenny did in the tutorial and I am stumped now........for some reason I am totally directional challenged. I couldn't even do the Playskool puzzles for toddlers when my kids were little.....embarrassing !!! Can someone help me figure out if I start at the bottom or what? I wish I could explain it more but I can't figure out if I sew the sides of the strip or the
bottom.........>>????????

See if watching Jenny make a table runner will help you: Scrap Buster! Make Easy Table Runner Using the Binding Tool! - YouTube
I have not done this yet.

Re: stumped on the braid quilt
I made one of these a couple of years ago, although I never got it quilted. They are a bit challenging to put together. I have done a little diagram but not sure it will be of any help. There is a book I found very good called Jelly Roll Quilts by Pam and Nicky Lintott.

Hope it helps a bit.
Re: stumped on the braid quilt
I think you have to cut equal number of right and left facing pieces, did you do that?
Re: stumped on the braid quilt
The scrap buster table runner has a square sewed to some of the strip ends to help make everything line up. I don't beleive the braid quilt does. I'm with Jean, you need right and left side pieces.
I'd watch Jenny's tutorial again, picking up the same 'side' piece she is, lay it down etc... Pause the video to often to check. Seriously. Sometimes you need to go really simple to get what you want correct.
I would also advise that once you have the layout done, take pictures. Lots. So you can refer to them when you sew the pieces together. I do that for all my projects.

Re: stumped on the braid quilt
This is one of the easiest patterns I've ever done. Try it this way and you'll love it, though it only uses three fat quarters instead of lots of scraps or a jelly roll: Free Table Topper Quilt Pattern
Re: stumped on the braid quilt
Hi Estrogen!! :icon_wave: This has nothing to do with your question about the braid quilt. I saw your "name" and laughed to myself....I am in the midst of that oh so wonderful time of life! :icon_mooooh: :icon_crazy: And then I saw that you are in Aiken.....I am in Warrenville!!! So we are just about neighbors!! :D I have picked up & put down quilting several times in the last few years....I try to do something, it doesn't turn out right, I get frustrated and put it down, saying "Never again". But here I am again, trying one more time.....fingers crossed.

Re: stumped on the braid quilt
I used the book Jenny held up at the beginning of her tutorial and found putting it together was very easy. Here's one I made for a niece (sorry it's a bit blurry). Lilyjo's diagram is spot on.

Re: stumped on the braid quilt
hi neighbor, I got my handle years ago when I was going through that "time of life" so glad it's over............I took a quilting course at a quilt shop in downtown Aiken and did what you did, put it down for a few years. When I decided to get into it again the quilt shop had closed !!! So now I've been buying my fabric online..........this board really helps me with questions and techniques. So glad I found it.
Re: stumped on the braid quilt
Thanks everyone.....I think I figured it out and have it started. It really wasn't that hard, but as I said I am challenged by "puzzles":icon_wave:

Oh too funny, I took a class at the shop in Aiken a few yrs ago too! The project was a square quilt made from a pattern out of a book for patterns for baby quilts. Squares with alternating four patches, an inner border & outer border. I just got back from Augusta and purchased some fabric at Branum's and Jeff's Sewing & Vacuum. Jeff's doesn't a huge amount of fabric, but what they have is great. They are good Christian people who own & run the store. Have you ever been to Creative Sewing Machine Center in Columbia??? They have over 4000 bolts of fabric! :-) I love to be able to see the fabric in person and feel it. But I have done my share of damage by buying from M* too.
Re: stumped on the braid quilt
For me, when I did the friendship braid with the binding tool, I found it easiest to keep sewing them all together into one huge long braid. Then I cut it into equal lengths for my quilt. Good luck, I really like this pattern.
Re: stumped on the braid quilt
thanks for all the feedback , but I really need help on what to put in the middle of the quilt and use the braids as a border
