Red. what would you do?

My sister was at my house yesterday and I was showing her some of my projects. Just as a matter of conversation I asked her what her favorite color is. The answer? RED! It was very quick with nothing else. I didn't want to ask questions as I have wanted to surprise her with a quilt for sometime but didn't had any real idea as to color. We live 150 miles apart and get to see each other, well,I think it has been five years.

How would you proceed. Pick a red fabric and use blender type fabrics with it? Do red with blacks or white or both? Pick a fabric that has a lot of colors in it but the red is dominate and get coordinate fabrics? Other ideas?

HELP!

I would do a red and white quilt. they are great.

Go with all red fabrics then!

The striking simplicity of a red and white quilt is hard to beat. I like the hunters star mentioned above, or a double Irish chain is nice too.

I love the look of the red and white quilts. Jenny has several videos that come to mind. Jacobs ladder, houndstooth, love notes/you've got mail.

I agree with Annika. Red and white is a sure thing and a safe thing.

Ohhhh, what about Old Maid Puzzle? Very simple, too, made with 1/2 & 1/4 square triangles.

I totally agree with red and white. Then go to Google images of red quilts, and pick what speaks to you...it'll probably speak to your sister also!

This is a link to a top I just finished a couple of weeks ago. I used Moda's MedWinter Reds and I love the results. There is a wonderful mixture of reds, creams and tans sure to go with almost anything. Wish I knew how to post pictures from a blackberry. Anyone know how?

I have a red and white churn dash quilt on my to do list. maybe with 30's fabrics.

Myself, I don't like red & black. Red & white is lovely though.

I love red with cream and brown.....Attachment 81337 Red and white always make a sharp, clean looking quilt....very classic.

Red and white - simple choice and stunning effect! Any pattern really... shoot, even HST's alone... so many options just right there :-)

How gorgeous is this and it's a free pattern. Don't know if I would want to cut my own templates.

Definitely a red and white quilt!!!

Many have commented that red and white is a given but although I like red I do not care for the stark contrast of just red and white. Cat77 had a link showing a square inside a square done in all reds and bubby showed red, cream and some tan that showed red nicely but was a little softer.

Ahhh, Red and White. My favorite besides Black & White quilts. :D She will love it for sure if she said "Red".

After looking at the links posted I would have to say I am now a fan of the Red and White.

I, too, love red and I can think of nothing she would love more than a red and white quilt. The Penny Store has a gorgeous one on display with a deep red fabric. It took my breath away!

I have to agree with the others. Red and white, however, I really like the fabrics in Bubby's "You've got mail" quilt with the creams, browns and assorted shades. That's very classy!

The red & red Cat 77 posted & Bubba's suggestion are lovely too, IMHO. But the red & white -- or red & off-white, if your tastes lean more to GrandmaE's would be easier to pull off. If the red & white contrast isn't quite you, or our sister, you could look at some white or cream tone-on-tones.

Wow! I post and then don't get back for a few hours and what a collection of patterns and ideas. I am leaning toward the cream and red but we will see.

Have you seen the 'Midwinter Red' collection by Moda? Stunning.
The charm packs are no longer available here, but I'll bet you could find it easily. (Not a bright red, more of a subtle brick red). The coordinating favorite is very impressive. It's in my sewing stash, and calling me, for a wedding quilt in August.... ;)

A red and white quilt is big on my list too. And the hunters star in red and white sounds especially nice!

They are 2 different quilts!

This isn't very helpful but an old wives tale for red and white is blood and bandages!!
So if it was me I'd go for something with red in it, and co ordinate.

Red and white are the original colors for an Irish Chain quilt. But I think with the boldness of the red, a simple single chain would provide more color balance. Just my 2 cents.
