Been there, done that! It's amazing how those squares magically move around between the layout and the sewing!
Definitely been there before...I've had many cases of gremlins!
I am glad it's not just me.. Thought the Alzheimer's was kicking in....
yep..in fact they were here hangin out with me today. You can have them back now!!
I number my pieces on the back......and still get them wrong :icon_rolleyes:
It's ok Wendy ... You can keep them....
If this quilt wasn't for My Grandson it would be a UFO or rags....
This is why I take pictures of my layouts. If I didn't I'd never get the blocks in the correct order.
All the time. Good idea...pictures....DUH! Why didn't I think of that!
If it's the size that's wrong, the issue would either be the blocks weren't all cut the same size or your seams are inconsistent. If it's a matter that some are positioned wrong, I mark the beginning of each row with a number. I stack the row in the exact order and position they should be sewn together. Once each row is stacked I clip the stack together with a clothespin. If you have trouble you could put a pin in the upper left corner of each block to remind you that it's the edge that needs to be sewn onto the previous block. Sometimes I drop something or get interrupted and this system works super well for me.
Gremlins having a party at my house! Been trying to finish some UFO's and the borders have been possessed by the gremlins. Nothing going right! Who knew I would have trouble with borders???????????
Please, someone, take the gremlins away!
Love the idea of taking pictures, never thought of it, and I will do this in the future. Do gremlins breed?
Oh yes... When they get you on one thing, a whole group of them gang up on you, so watch out....:icon_evil:
Well the Gremlins seem to be everywhere. I try not to notice them, feed them or water them. I keep hoping they will run away to find a better home. So far it hasn't worked. My last block of the month block stirred them up to a frenzy.
Oh, yeah! No doubt about it. The gremlins lurk everywhere. I have to REALLY concentrate when I go from wall to machine, or I'll get it backwards half the time.
After numbering them and being so careful, they still get in the wrong spot. I'm doing a Falling Charms and had it all sewed together and WOOPS.....yep had to take some apart and put them the way they are supposed to be. I left one goofed up, but I don't care.. Gives it character. :icon_wave:
Yes gremlins are everywhere. I think they get into the box with every new sewing machine. Or maybe they come in with the fabric stash. Not really sure how they get there but I wish I knew of a way to get rid of them.
The gremlins in my sewing room like to hide things from me. I am still looking for my labyrinth pattern.
I have many gremlins. I have also learned to take pictures of the correct layout and use that as reference.
I manage to sew a few blocks upside down with some alarming regularity :0
Somebody taught me to label each block once I decided what order to put them in. Start with upper left as Row 1 - 1
then go down that row as 1-2, 1-3 etc. I pin or tape a piece of paper on each block with that Row # and Block #. If I have to stop for a while, which always seems to happen, I can tell what order I had the rows and blocks organized into. I have still made mis-
takes also, but this is really fast to do and helps me move the offending block back to its correct order...or not if it looks ok where it got moved to. Works well for me.
I don't label each block, just the 1st one in each row. I leave the pieces laid out on my "design floor" (fam. rm. carpet). I start with #1, then get the next block, and advance down the row. If orientation of the block is puzzling, just put a pin in the top of the block so you know which end is up. I also place sticky notes (they need to be pinned, as they won't stay on) with an arrow pointing which direction to press the seams.Attachment 81409 I also use pins for orientation when I'm sewing blocks together. I'm a sew-one-block-at-a-time person. I think it's less confusing that way. JCY
I tried "Raid" once to get rid of them, but alas they are immune. Now I talk to the little beggars but I think they like that.....I suspect they have set up camp somewhere in my basement. :icon_popcorn:
It has definitely happened to me. Two things are helpful:
1. Design Wall - It helps keep the blocks in order. When you stitch two blocks, place them back on the wall to make sure they still fit in with the other blocks in the correct way.
2. Use sticky notes to keep rows together.
