Default Log Cabin Die from Accuquilt

Does anyone have one of these and if so, have you used it? I cut my fabric and am putting it together. My first two blocks are stretched out of shape, I'm being more careful with the third. I have noticed if I use all the logs I end up with a rectangle not a true square. Is that the way it is supposed to be?????

It should come out as a square. Check to see that you are placing the beginning squares correctly. I somehow messed that up-it's two little square blocks together.

Oh, and starching before cutting, helps a bit with the stretching.

When you are making a Log Cabin all the logs should be sewn on counterclockwise. If you do some clockwise and others counterclockwise you will end up with a mess. Remember LCCC - Log Cabin Counter Clockwise.

Accuquilt has a tutorial on the log cabin die. And it's important to cut fabric on the lengthwise grain. I haven't used mine yet! I got it after watching the tutorial.

I bought a log cabin ruler--don't know the brand. I ended up not using it, as it was confusing for me. I felt like I got more accurate pieces from using my regular Creative Grids ruler. It also helps to square as you go. If you're making a 12.5" LC, square at 6.5" & 8.5" & the 12.5". That way things come out better. JCY.

Be super careful with your fabric your placing on your die. Even slightly off grain will stretch.

Well, I fixed my block. I was sewing it wrong and I thank you all for your help. You use 2 of each log EXCEPT the last one. That is why it wasn't measuring correctly. I still have a problem with the stretching but I'm using your tips and will see how this quilt comes out. Next time, I'll starch and be very careful on die placement. I'm a pretty new quilter but each time is better. Again, I thank you all, tips are very much appreciated!!!!!
