So, what do you do with uneven layer cakes? I want to do the boarded square, with Venezia layer cake, just like the tutorial Jenny did, but a least 25 of them are off, some by a half an inch in the middle. Should I return it? Or can it be fixed in anyway? What would you do?
I think half an inch is a lot...I personally would return it...and say it's damaged goods...

I got one layer cake a while back and now just using. In the pile was one layer cake the size was 10 inches by about 6.5 inches. Bad quality control
This makes me really nervous.... I've got a couple of layer cakes in my stash that I hadn't planned on using for a little bit. If I go to use them and they're off like that... it may be too late for me to complain and get either my money back or a replacement.
May have to go check them tonight just to be safe....
This is exactly why I've quit buying pre-cuts. If a person has to trim every square, one might as well cut their own & know the dimensions are right. JCY
I would write an email to the fabric company - Moda or whoever manufactured that layer cake and include the picture. Most of them are good about replacing poor quality cuts. And it really is a problem on their part, not who ever sold the layer cake, as all they do is order it from the company. We need to start hitting the manufacturers with the complaints.
I would return the layer cake and email the fabric company. The last charm pack and layer cake I worked with were both off but not so much.

I am slowly going through all my accumulated precuts and using them up in simple quilts that can be adjusted easily when they fall short. For the price of precuts one should get what we paid for !

The manufacturers are pretty good about making things right. My Moda rep told me they do quality checks, but with as much fabric that goes through there on a daily basis, I'm sure things can get missed.
Sorry, but this is a poor, unacceptable answer from Moda. We pay a premium price for precuts so we should demand a premium product. If they cannot produce these precuts with consistent accuracy, then they need to lower the price accordingly (you get what you pay for) or do a better job of producing a quality product (my personal preference since I love precuts but probably won't be buying more until they get their act together - and I mean ALL manufacturers of precuts, not just Moda).Quote:

In my opinion, as someone else stated - I would contact Moda and ask them what to do - return it to them or to M*. - That way you're letting them know that you are unhappy with THEM... Let them know that there has been discussion on this forum (and others I'm sure) about the quality and consistency of precuts in general!Quote:

I have had this problem with precut squares and strips. Twice I have contacted the shops I ordered them from, and included pictures. Both times I received a refund with no problem. However, I was told by both shops that they had never had or heard of a problem with precuts and were very surprised. I emailed Moda and included pictures . Their response was that they had not had any complaints and as the fabrics were machine cut, it was almost impossible for the cuts to be "off".
It was hard to believe that the manufacturer or retailers acted surprised as I have read about so many people encountering the same problems. Because of this, I encourage you to return your purchase.

I'm sorry so you had the same complaints, it's very frustrating, I wanted to make my DS and DIL a quilt for their new house, (bedroom) but now I'm at a stand still, I was so anxious to start on it. I e-mail Benatex haven't heard from them, it's only been 3 days. I think I'm going to order yard from MSQ in the colors I really like, thanks for all the input everyone. :icon_wave:
I had a solid charm pack that way. I had already thrown out the wrapper and put it in a container for a "later" project. When I paired it with a print charm pack I realized that it was off about 1/4". Used it but wasn't too happy about it. I emailed MSQC to let them know in case they had other complaints. I wasn't asking for my money back or anything since I had it for awhile before I used it. The reply to my email was very nice and they still offered to make good on it. Which is why I buy pretty much all of my precuts from them.
what I don't understand is why aren't these companies using an accuquilt (sp?) for these, or something like it? This would really annoy me. We seldom can buy pre-cuts here so have never had this problem. Hope you get it sorted soon. 3 days is a long time to wait for a reply IMO. Same or next day is acceptable, two is rude and three is just wrong. I would be phoning now. Poor customer care indeed!
