Too much like Christmas??
I'm making this quilt for a wedding gift for my cousin's son and his new wife to be. They are both quite artsy, I'm pretty sure met in college in their fine arts studies. I do know that he took up Ukrainian dance with her.
I chose a 3 fabric quilt pattern and went shopping without any particular fabric in mind. I found the bright colorful fabric and it really reminded me of the bright traditional Ukrainian costumes. My hubby is Ukrainian and our daughter danced for a few years as well. Possibly I should have pulled the blue as my other supporting fabric besides the red print but I really like this contrast too.
I'm a little worried that it screams Christmas, but I'm marching forward anyway. It will be backed and bound with the bright folksy fabric. I'm calling it "Celebration" as that is what their day is about of course, but so is the traditional dance and costume.
Thoughts???

Re: Too much like Christmas??
Red and green are like Christmas, BUT this is soooo pretty.
It doesn't remind me of Christmas....keep quilting.
It will look great.
Re: Too much like Christmas??
It doesn't say Christmas to me. I like it and it's very pretty!
Re: Too much like Christmas??
I like it, too. I don't think it screams Christmas but I do think it would work on their bed at Christmas time! Honestly, every Christmas I wish I had a red, green and white quilt for each bed. Either way, I think they will LOVE it.
Re: Too much like Christmas??
While the colors are red and green, the prints are not Christmasy at all. I like it too.

Re: Too much like Christmas??
Nope, that big floral is non-Christmas. I think you're safe.
Re: Too much like Christmas??
Thanks everyone! Here's a funny update....I'm finished the quilt top! Hope to get it basted tonight and maybe quilted too (just doing walking foot serpentine my latest fave :))
As I get ready to sew the blocks for row 7 of 8 something doesn't seem right. I look at the pattern, yes, it says eight rows of seven blocks in bold print. I measure my quilt top and confirm the book misprint as my rows are 8" too short. I need seven rows of eight blocks. I decide to finish up row seven with just seven blocks and then get busy and make a vertical row of seven (my eighth block in each row) to sew to one side. I carefully make sure I have the blocks going the right direction to fit my pattern. Sew, press, sew the row to the quilt top. Lay it out and admire. WHAT?!! I've sewn the blocks together upside down to the pattern, though at a glance nobody would ever notice. For 30 seconds I consider getting out the seam ripper and starting the row again. Then I laugh out loud and decide it's staying. A quilt, like life, is no less beautiful or warm because of an upside down row or block somewhere. ;)

Re: Too much like Christmas??
Love the fabric! And I would do the same as you with that wayward row, or column or whatever. :)
Re: Too much like Christmas??
I thought I would have it basted tonight but I'm a few inches short on batting. I guess I am headed back to the fabric shop tomorrow to take in the batting sale after all! Lol. I seem to be going through a lot of it lately - but then I made 6 quilts in June so I guess that's why....! This will be quilt #20 for me!
