Boredom is definitely part of the issue here. Cut paper to size, cut fabric to size, sew on dotted lines, cut on solid lines, remove papers, press, repeat. I think I'd rather do something less tedious & not worry about a few mismatched seams from working with the bias. It also seems wasteful -- since you cut the fabric to size twice, and have to use all that paper. Lots of little useless skinny strips of fabric.

I don't like the paper piecing HST's either, especially Thangles!

I know some say just to shorten the stitch length and it will tear easy. Then you need to get all the little pieces out, .....

If I had to do all that I might as well draw the little line and square up after.

    REMINDS ME OF A POEM.....

HEY diddle diddle the fabric cut in the middle, the thread piled up in masses, the little dog laughed to see such sport and the pencil ran away with the glasses

I also use the oversized method of two squares but I usually only sew 2 at a time. WILL be changing that to the magic 8. It is tedious to trim all those little squares BUT it is worth the effort.

Mostly I am a process person so I do get bored after a while. When that happens I prepare my projects into steps.
    Cut all the squares.
Layer them the way I need them.
    Draw the lines.
    Stack them into smaller sub-sets.
    Cut them apart.
    Press them open.
    Trim them up.
That way I may sew all of them OR I may stop after I finished a smaller stack. It is less stressful and less guilty.
It makes such a huge difference when I can get that boring stuff done in between other things. Try it, you may like it.
