    I just asked this question! I'm going to fussy cut the big square. So let's say its 6'' . you cut two strips 3 1/4'' wide . sew those together. Then cut them 6'' sew them back together opposite colors. I hope that was clear

    So in short half your square and add 1/4'' for your strips.

    So I could be totally wrong but I think to make this pattern, once you have sewn the strips you will want to cut the strips in 3 1/4 inch slices, so that when you sew the slices back together (switching colors) you will end up with six inch squares. But what do I know. Newbie alert.

    In any case, I agree with Hulamoon that this pattern is a winner.
