Re: Would This Bother You? - Seam Matching Question
Can you offset them on purpose? I'm like you - I haven't done very many quilts, but on mine, my eye goes right to where I know the seams aren't right. I understand what you're talking about and if they line up on one side and not the others, I would be frustrated too. From my limited experience, I might see if I could find a way to offset all the sides or defer to these experts and go with it as is :-)

Leave it! Think of all the other quilts that are waiting for you. The recipient will not see it, unless you bring it to their attention. And I promise the quilt police will be off duty at that time. I know I would not be spending any more time trying to achieve perfection.
Re: Would This Bother You? - Seam Matching Question
To me sashing was invented to compensate for non matching seams. It is a "get out of jail free card" with the quilt police.
Re: Would This Bother You? - Seam Matching Question
It is beautiful just the way it is. It's a scrappy looking quilt and only you know it's suppose to match up there!
If it really bothers you (and only you) slap an applique over it. But if you do that, then you will need several randomly put appliques. Think flowers or butterflies.
But really, if it was me, I would leave it. They won't know it's not an on purpose design.
You really need to go to a museum and look at the antique quilts. You will see a lot of chopped off points and mismatched seams. And you know what - they are beautiful quilts - beautiful enough to be displayed in a museum!
I remember Liz Porter saying if you make a mistake, make another just like it so people will think it was meant to be that way.
Re: Would This Bother You? - Seam Matching Question
looking at this again - I am wondering if the border is going in the right direction. If you took the bottom of the border, and put it at the top, would the blocks line up any better? (Or if this is a top or bottom border, just flip the direction of the border, put what is on the right on the left instead.)
Re: Would This Bother You? - Seam Matching Question
If it bothers you, try sewing with the shorter side on top if you understand what I mean.
Re: Would This Bother You? - Seam Matching Question
I'd say leave it.
What I did one time when a top wasn't looking right was to lay it on the bed....step across the room...hmmm...it kind of disappeared (or I was too blind to see it).
Re: Would This Bother You? - Seam Matching Question
Thank you all for the thoughts and advise! I think with this one being the only one (as of right now... I have two borders to go), it may get hidden in the quilting.
When I asked my mom her opinion... she asked if it was going to be a show quilt (NO!) or if someone was paying me to make it (NO!).... told me to leave it alone too. My BFF is totally not a quilter, so I highly doubt she will notice it.
Hoping to get the other two borders added tonight and I'll be able to share pics of the finished top soon :) Turns out... I actually like it now! Lol.
Re: Would This Bother You? - Seam Matching Question
Did one of the blocks get turned? Or more than one of the blocks get turned? I think it looks fine and it could be like your label on the quilt, or a hidden signature.
