    Default Machine Pieced Hexagons?

I have a small project I'm thinking of making with hexagons. I'd rather not have extra seams by sewing half hexagons together, so I'd end up with Y seams to piece. The youtube video's I've watched make it look simple of course, but I'm not sure I'd do a great job

Does anyone have horror stories trying this, or have they turned out fairly well?

I confess, I've never tried it. . . but, that said, if I WERE to try it, I think I would start with ugly scraps first until I got the hang of it.

I have not done it with hexagons but I have done it with another project and I was surprised at how easy it is! Just practice on some scraps. I suggest drawing your 1/4" lines and mark the stopping points and don't go even one stitch past them. As long as you STOP before crossing the seam you will be fine! (Try to stop exactly on the stopping point--you might have to reduce your final stitch length to do this.)

I saw something quite ingenious this week. It was a rubber stamp set of a hexagon that you stamp on your fabric. You then cut out the shape and it leaves a dashed stitching line so you know right where to start and stop. I nearly bought it, but thought again and left it on the shelf. They had a sample sewed and it was wonderful! All done by machine....

Remember to backstitch so your seam won't unravel.

When I did an I Spy hexagon, I also did not want the "seam" in the middle. I used the Fons and Porter Hexagon template. I also did little triangles in a solid red. Sewed a triangle to the bottom left and the top right. That way I had no "Y" seams.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about: Brigitte Giblin's Feathering The Nest: Hexagon and Blue Star Quilt

(I really need to read the instructions on how to post a picture!)
