I've been using my Big Shot for cardmaking and papercrafts for some time but had not thought about using it for applique. What a brilliant idea - this will further justify the investment I made! Thanks

Wow, thanks for all the information. I am not currently in the market, but will definitely consider re-reading this if and when I do. Thanks for sharing and love the enthusiasm.

Awesome info, thanks. I haven't dared to venture into applique yet but it's so lovely that it's definately on the list...someday.

Do you know that you can use other dies on the Sizzix beside the Sizzix brand. I have a Cricut Cuttle Bug. And I use sizzix, cuttle bug, and spellbinder Dies on my cuttle bug. So your are not limted to just use Sizzix.

Thank you so much Sewbee, for all the information

I got my Sizzix BigKick at my door yesterday and tried it out this morning. It is great! I made a cute fabric label for a quilt I am giving my mother-in-law today. I got everything at the outlet store - the BigKick was $50, and as far as I can tell it works the same as the BigShot. I am really looking forward to incorporating applique into my quilting

Yay Marebear I'm glad you got your BigKick and are enjoying it! I'm hoping to start doing more applique too...there are so many possibilities!

Yes Lynne that was one of the advantages of the Sizzix brand machines....they are able to use other brand dies including the Accuquilt dies as long as they are not more than 6" wide. I haven't bought any other brand dies yet but will keep my eye out for any cute ones on sale!

Pamstone I have some of the original "red" dies too....they work just fine and have some really nice patterns. Some of the BigZ dies might be a little large for applique depending on your project. Lots of the smaller red, yellow and green dies are available on Ebay at good prices too.

I LOVE MY BIG SHOT!-img_5310.jpgI used my Big Shot for the flowers in this quilt. It cuts fabric like a dream (I think I will keep dies I use for fabric ONLY for fabric) and I also got a ton of advice and inspiration from Patsy's blog! She is amazing! One day, one day...lol!

I thought I'd bring up this topic again and since I just purchased a Big Shot Pro I'd like to see more discussion and see pictures of the work others are doing with the cutters(Sizzix or AccuQuilt). I learned that the Accuquilt dies can be used on the BSP if shims are added under the plexiglass adapter tray. It was recommended to me to get the Priority Mail Envelope from the Post Office(for the BSP I needed four of the envelopes, two envelopes at each end of the adapter tray). Also heard that some were using cereal box cardboard(may only need one layer of cereal boxes) to make shims. The two layers raise the adapter tray enough to compensate for the thinner Accuquilt dies.
Please post pictures of your work, I would love to see what your doing. And I promise I will soon have something to post. Got to finish two quilts that I had promised my GD's!!! Chris
