A couple of thoughts come to mind. What is the significance of the quilt to you? If you are looking for momentary value, the moment an antique quilt top is added to in anyway the value drops dramatically. If the quilt top has family heirloom value, preservation can be very important such as not keeping it the sunlight.

As far as finishing, the mixing of old fabrics and new fabrics can be a challenge due to fabric production methods being different. The shrinkage rate can vary from old fabrics to new ones.

I'm sure some of the ladies and gentleman on here have some good ideas of what to do. I know a group of local ladies who are historian quilters who can tell you the best thing to do and explain the why of their suggestions.
