Re: Big Stitch Quilting
I've always been intimidated by hand quilting, but this makes it seem approachable. Thank you for the motivation. Everyone's work is beautiful.

Re: Big Stitch Quilting
I do not. I use Sharon Schambler's(?) method of hand basting and quilt without a hoop. I find doing the larger stitch is easier on my hands, too. I hand quilt the normal way too but find this way is easier for me

I didn't either, mine was huge (King) and the weight gave me just a little tension. I was just careful to start in the center and kept smoothing just a little bit as I moved on to a new section. Mine was spray basted.

Re: Big Stitch Quilting
How do the backs look compared to the fronts when you do these large stitches? Are they still smaller or large like the front? I guess if you do a basic running stitch they would be the same on both sides?

Re: Big Stitch Quilting
The stitches look the same on the back as the front. Big stitching is the same as hand quilting using regular quilting thread, except you use heavier thread, and take bigger stitches. I use a hoop, but know several people that don't use one. It goes much quicker than traditional hand quilting, and is a great way to 'show case' the stitching.

Re: Big Stitch Quilting
I have been doing the big stitch or primitive stitching for about a year now - Blondie was my motivator - I absolutely love it and can't wait to get another one on the frame....I am waiting for some quilts from Blondie to stitch up.....I use perle cotton and betweens needles for my big stitch quilting - works well for me...you should try it...I love it!
