Re: Type of thread to use for machine quilting
My experience is quite limited. I have been frustrated trying to use standard threads from the fabric store. Not because my machine balks at it - but because it doesn't feed well. I get all kinds of messes with thread wrapped around the spindle, caught in the little cut on the spool's edge, and issues with the spool not turning well. The spool cap that came with my machine helps some - but that's not foolproof, either. My machine seems to like the really large spools. They just feed better. But, the big spools of cotton thread I currently have are really linty and make a mess. So, I kept looking for something else. I do a lot of machine embroidery and have hundreds of spools of polyester machine embroidery thread. I read a recommendation from someone online (Leah Day, I think...but not sure) who uses that type of thread for FMQ. I've quilted one project with it and must say I'm quite happy so far. I think what it comes down to is testing many different types. It's amazing how fussy these machines are!
