modern quilt ideas for nancy drew charms
I want to much to find a pattern that works well using my Nancy Drew charm squares, and so far I've really been drawn to modern patterns such as the Zipper block or perhaps the herringbone design quilt.
Anyone have experience using this type of character fabric? I am sure I want to avoid using traditional blocks, but have not made any other firm decisions, will appreciate any suggestions and thanks in advance.

I can't remember who's quilt this is.. But I saved the pic because it was great use of a novelty print. I would use it for your Nancy Drew stuff.

I don't know names yet but I remember her avatar. She is standing between her two sons. She also does amazing quilts. I loved pouring through her albums.

That's an Eleanor Burns pattern. It would be perfect for whole charms!

I know who you mean too! I think she has done several Wizard of Oz quilts, I can picture her as well.

There is a video for it too.

Jean, I've not looked at Eleanor's pattern, but checking the picture of MomGran's quilt - doesn't it look like a giant D9P with each quarter sashed?

The thing about directional fabric is finding a pattern that will work with them. These two will keep them upright.

It is, but we were talking ( MomGram)and if you want to use a directional print you have to do each block seperatly and forget the disappearing part. lol

If you follow this placement your directional prints will be right way up:

I will have to try this pattern too
Re: modern quilt ideas for nancy drew charms
Normally they would but not with the placement for these blocks. MomGram tried. Her ears must be ringing. lol

I only had one charm pack of Nancy Drew so I'm making a small wall hanging. Maybe not modern, but it sure is fun. :) I'm waiting on border fabric then I can finish it up.

Sorry was out and about yesterday, getting ready for the baby. I did find when making the piece of cake quilt it was easier to just cut the pieces and sew together. The Peice of a Cake pattern uses big blocks so this worked out great for me. The first two times I sewed the blocks as per the directions took me all day twisting and turning to figure out how I wanted everything. I have done blocks for two more quilts, and cutting the fabric separately and then peicing the blocks I made both of them in an afternoon.
