    Default Baby Quilt backing

    Hello
I'm making a baby quilt, I have a question about the backing it said I can use 60 " fabric like minkee but I'm using the 45" material. How do I piece the fabric by using the 45" fabric. I appreciate any information. Thanks

I am not sure what you are asking. What pattern are you using? Maybe someone else will come along with an answer.

I'm thinking that your blanket is wider than the 45" fabric that you are using. So without seeing the actual quilt, I would say all you have to do is take two pieces and sew them together to make the size you need. Better to make the seam off center. Is this what you meant? You can do a more complicated pieced back also, but this is the easiest and quickest way to make it the size you need.

You will need to piece the back. Remember to match the repeat if you have a pattern (you make it look like it is a continuing part of the pattern when you sew it together-like hanging wallpaper).

I also like to make 1/2" seams on the backing fabric. It's easier to make the seams lie flat when quilting.

Oh, I forgot to mention matching the repeat. I use the free class on Craftsy for that. Comes out great! I just did it again on Julia's quilt. Can't even tell there is a seam. Without this class, I would never use a print if I had to piece it and not match it...my OCD would kick into overdrive....lol

You didn't mention the size of your finished top... or maybe I just missed it.. but knowing the size of your top would be key in figuring out the best way to piece with the least amount of seams. Hugs

Baby Quilt backing-quilt-002-1024x576-800x450-640x360-640x360-286x200-.jpgThanks everyone for the information, I didn't have to buy 4 yards for the backing. I just need about 1.5 yards or so. The quilt is 40x40. I have no idea what they came up with 4 yards for using 45". The quilt is sweetie pie by strawberry patches. I almost done with it.
    Thanks again [ATTACH=CONFIG]70964

That is a really cute quilt. Is that the backing fabric? Did you make your back a little bigger than your top for quilting? Please post pics when you are done, I would love to see it.
