What do you do with your old needles??
I change the needle on my Bernina 750 after every project. I store the old needles in an old pill container because I hate the thought of just throwing them in my trash....now what do I do..just throw the whole container away and start with a new one? It's not full yet..just wondering what I will do when it does get full.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
I dispose of mine one at a time by laying it on a piece of packing tape...then adding another layer of packing tape on top of that. Then roll the packing tape/needle sandwich up so that the business end is buried pretty deeply in the packing tape - and hit it one more time with another piece or two of tape. And then toss it in the trash.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
I would just throw out the container and needles and start over. These aren't the type of needles for medical purposes. No special handling is necessary if they are in a pill bottle with a lid.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
I just throw mine away in the bag with the rest of my sewing trash. I don't put them in anything.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
I put mine with the used diabetic needles. Just because I don't want sharp things in the trash. I'm wondering though if needles can be recycled? We have our bins picked up every week. I may check with our recycling company.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
I chuck mine in the recycling bin. Since our trash pickup uses the trucks to dump the cans and not people I feel safe knowing no one will get stuck.

I completely forgot that some people still have PEOPLE that pick up their trash!
We have had the trucks pick it up for so many years now. Even the recycling can is picked up by the truck.

I just throw mine in my little sewing room trash can

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
I think it is great that you put the needles in the medicine bottles. It will help some animal from getting one stuck in their paw at the land fill (when I was growing up it was called the dump). I have a friend who is diabetic and takes Insulin shots, I drop my needles in the "Sharps" container for her needles.

It's new this year. But they still have to get out of the truck when other people pile garbage and cardboard boxes next to the cans.
I stopped putting needles in my sewing room can when the dog got into it. Now needles and rotors blades go straight into the bin.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
I use old prescription bottles. Actually right now I have a large one just collecting any sharps in my sewing room. Bent pins, old needles, etc.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
I put mine in a small sharpies container we got at the pharmacy....same for the rotary blades.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
I put mine in a Cracker barrel syrup bottle. They are glass and I know nobody will get stuck when I throw them out. I have a sharps container I put the bottles in and it will take me years to fill up the sharps container. I will deal with it when that time comes.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
You can use them as nails to hang things with. I used some to put up a wall hanging at Christmas time. They went straight through the edge of the binding and made such tiny holes right up near the molding that there was no need to patch the wall.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
I put mine in a coffee can along with used rotary blades. Then when I'm ready I just pitch the entire container.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
I keep used and broken needles in empty Altoids boxes until filled then toss the box in the trash.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
I have a closet full of voodoo dolls who are screaming for attention. I just can't go through needles fast enough.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
Mine go in the garbage with the rest of my sewing trash like Cat n Bull does.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
Save them all year (an old Rx container works well) and then on February 8th you can celebrate Hari-Kuyo, the Japanese observance of bent and broken needles.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
I put mine in an empty aspirin bottle with a child guard cap. I keep one bottle on my machine table and one in my sewing basket for hand needles.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
Mine go into a bottle for disposal and the bottle goes into the trash....a friend of mine years ago - her husband got stuck handling trash...it was a horrible time for them...he couldn't even kiss his own wife or their kids or anything...had to get tested monthly as well...

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
I keep my in an old medicine bottle and throw away when full. My DIL adopted 2 cats who were found in the "dump", so I don't want anyone or anything to be injured.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
My 'trash' collector service includes a notice on their billing that reads: DUE TO LIABILITY & SAFETY CONCERNS, WE ASK THAT YOU WOULD PUT ALL NEEDLES INTO A PLASTIC CONTAINER & EMPTY OUT PILLS FROM THE BOTTLE INTO THE TRASH TO ENSURE PROPER DISPOSAL.

That was interesting.
Into my sewing trash can. So special treatment or observances.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
I put mine in a pill container along with old pins then throw that in the trash when full. I worked for Waste Management for years as the Public Relations Coordinator for a landfill. I spent a lot of time both at the working face and our recycling transfer station. There is a small risk of sharps in a modern landfill but a much larger risk at the recycling plants. That is still very labor intensive and requires a lot of hand sorting. It is also amazing the paper that is put in the recycling bin - credit card statements, social security numbers, etc. After seeing that I bought a shredder.

Re: What do you do with your old needles??
Thank you for asking about this. I have to admit to ignorance in how I was just throwing mine in the trash. I'm grabbing an old pill bottle to use from here on out.
