    Default a tote bag problem

Hi all. I could really use some ideas. I have created my own tote but have ran into a snag. I have a design that I would like in the upper corners of my bag. My problem is that I don't want the designs sewn together on the sides. Please, how do I fix this? I can place a gusset on the sides but then how do I box my corners? Thank you for your help!

Would it work to shift the design slightly towards the middle of the bag? Can you tell how much would be taken up by boxing the corners & move it that much towards the center?

The designs are two Grandmother's Fans with a Dresden in the center. They are only in the top two corners not the bottom.

Is it too late to make the whole bag wider? If so all I can think of is gussets. If you made the gussets rectangular as tall as the bag & as wide as you want, when you sew it in it would be square on the bottom (I think).
I'm trying to visualize in my head but I don't think I've had enough coffee yet. LOL

What about adding a small border that will fold into the sides instead of your design?
