Using panels?

I like to use panels for baby quilts. The edges need to be squared. I usually add a border to make it a little larger. I quilt around all the animals & fill in all the spaces. There are pics in 3 of my albums: The Kimba Quilt & Noah's Ark #1 & #2. No it is not cheating! Sometimes it takes longer to FMQ a panel than a regular pieced quilt. JCY

If the panel is really cute and calls out to you, then you have to incorporate it into your quilt - I did. And called it Bear Hugs.

And then I went and bought five more of these, just in case someone asks me to make a baby quilt or I get an invitation to a baby shower and I need to whip up something in a hurry - these babies will come in super handy.

Is it cheating? Anyway, whether it is or it isn't lol, what I want to know is if you make a quilt using one, a wall hanging for example, do you quilt across the panel or just around the borders?

This is a Michael Miller panel I added borders to. I quilted the angel following lines in the angel but, certainly not all and then stitched in the ditch the borders

For Christmas last year I made my friend a quilt using a center panel. She has a thing for angels and people here helped me find a really nice one. Took it to my LQS and picked out borders. It was a little late getting to her but she loves it. I quilted around the angel only and she looks nice.
