quilting wall was i dreaming?

A while ago, i saw a Utube video with something the lady called a quilting wall. i knew/know about design walls, but this lady used hers to layer her quilts. She was able to press her backing fabric up on the wall, spray adhesive, add her wadding and then finally her quilt top. Does anyone know what she might have had on the wall to support the weight of three layers? i suffer from tiny cottage space problems, to the point where i have to go to my mother in laws to layer my things (a three hour drive)

My husband and i just made a deal (got to love deals) We are building him a new workshop and i am getting my sewing room totally redone just as i need it with cutting table an everything! Woot! So as you can imagine, i would like to make the most of this as i doubt such willingness to accomodate fabric etc will come around again very quickly lol. While i have him distracted designing a workshop i want to find out about this quilting wall and cash in

Any help, info, links that anyone knows of would be greatly appreciated because (naturally) i can't find the video on UTube again naturally. There are others about design walls, but not this one i saw. Thanks for help..............all these great minds together must be able to come up with what i need eh?

Wow...I've never seen a design wall or quilting wall that will hold all the layers of a quilt. I'm interested in knowing more!! I hope someone can help locate the video you're referring too!!

(I send most of my quilt tops out to a LAQ, but the few smaller ones I've had to layer, I've done in my driveway *hanging head in shame* )

I remember that video. I think she had placed the ceiling tiles on her wall, not 100% sure. They worked like corkboard that she could pin felt or an old sheet to, then add her fabrics. Let me see if I can find it.

Was it Patsy Thompson? I saw a video on her website where she spray basted her quilt on a wall. If you Google Patsy Thompson Designs and click on the Education tab on the home page, there are videos there including the one I saw.

MrsWindy...... i wish i could send mine out to be quilted for me but in the UK i havent found a service cheaper than £145 for a king sized quilt. i am making a king sized now and i am going to have to find a way to quilt it myself........somehow.............er.............. .......someway..............that needs to be a song! But just to do the layering on the wall is going to help me no end.....yayy ty all again

Daisy...I wasnt sure of the currency rate differences so I googled it. If I'm correct, 145 in your currency is 235 in mine....thats expensive!!
My LAQ charges $115 (71 for you) for a king size quilt, and thats custom, not just an all over design. I tried to FMQ on a small wall hanging, it was rough....I'd hate to have to do a king size quilt! Good Luck to you and be sure to post pictures when you're finished...we love pictures!! (even though I still havent set up a photo album)

hi Mary, yes its ever so expensive here, i think because it is so much less common, also i believe all the long arms here are imported from the US. We may be posh (some of us lol) but we dont have many posh quilting machines. My Aunty Lizzie taught me and the old english way is to spot quilt. Its like tying but with a double french knot. i am thinking of trying a combination of stitch in the ditch and spot. Have to say the spot does look lovely on the back of the quilt though if you use fairy thick embroidery thread in a contrasting colour.

Thanks Daisy for bringing up this topic. I remember watching the video several months ago and before I had put up a small design wall; I too have limited space and since I really prefer working on tablerunners, baby quilts and wall hangings,the smaller wall is just fine. I had forgotten about Patsy's technique, just wish someone would come up with a non-aerosol basting product so you wouldn't need such a large area protected from the over-spray. I've tried using glue sticks on the fabric to batting, it worked fine but it was kind of hard to get the glue to spread on the batting without gumming up the glue stick with lots of batting fuzz. If you took a large piece of cardboard or posterboard and held it against the edge as a barrier as you sprayed, you might be able to get away with a smaller wall area. You'd just have to be careful what you laid it down on afterward.
