Default civil war pot holder quilt

I went to a quilt show today and saw a civil war pot holder quilt, it was beautiful and so unique. I would like to try this method of quilt-as-you-go and am wondering if anyone has tried this? Was it "sturdy", how did you attach the pot holder blocks to each other, by hand or machine?

I've never heard of a pot holder quilt before.

I have never heard of them before either but definitely sounds intriguing. I googled it and found the following.:
Create Your Own "Potholder Quilt", Freebies and Features Articles, Marcus Fabrics
It could be very fun to do.

There are several sites with this technique. Here is one: Barbara Brackman's MATERIAL CULTURE: Quilt As You Go

Thanks for the info, I think I will try this with the fun friendly projects group BOM and see how it goes.

From what I read in the links provided... this method is the same as Quilt as you Go... And yes they are very sturdy when put together. I have always used my machine to put them together. Hand "basting" doesn't hold up as well. but it depends upon the size of stitches you put into it. the More the Better.
