    Default Antique quilt-what to do?

Just came home from my friend Jennifer's house. She asked me to come and look at this quilt. Her hope was to have me make something out of it-possibly Christmas stockings. I was taken aback at how pretty it was and would have had a hard time cutting it. Jennifer's mother did not make this quilt- she thinks maybe her grandmother did or would have known who did. She keeps it in an archive box and wants to use it in some way. Anyway, the fabric is too fragile and deteriorated to work with-holes in almost every square- a shame because it it really beautiful. All hand quilted. Does anyone recognize the pattern? I would like to recreate it for my friend. Does anyone have suggestions for what can be done with a quilt in this condition?

I just don't have the heart to cut up old quilts! My husbands aunt does and makes teddy bears from them, which are very cute.

I agree, this is an Irish Chain, from all appearances.

I wouldn't be able to cut it up. It is a pretty quilt.

I couldn't cut it either. It is very pretty. It does look like a version of an Irish chain.
    Thank you,

It looks like a double or triple Irish chain with specific placement of colors. If you could get a picture of the quilt, directly above rather than at am angle it wouldn't be hard to figure the pattern out.

I would treasure this quilt even with holes in it. It is beautiful.

I agree it should never be cut! I think my friend is going to keep it as is. I will try to get a better picture of it. Thanks everyone!!

Something else I have seen done, is to cut it into sections, and frame them along w/any info about the quilt and it's make that you have....that is nice too.

I would have a hard time cutting up this treasure. It is definitely some kind of Irish Chain. Very pretty and soothing colors.
