Seeking Advice

I'm formulating an idea for the 12 blocks I have from a 2005 Block of the Month club. The theme was Asian, and my plan was to sash the blocks in black fabric and add borders.

Here's the thing: Back in 2005, I didn't know that you need to use scant 1/4" seams, I didn't know that you need to measure each micro block as you sew them together into the main block, oh there were all sorts of things I didn't know. The result is that my 12 blocks are not all 12-1/2 by 12-1/2.

Sew ... I was going to add a thin black border to each block and then trim them all to 13 by 13 before adding my 2-inch sashing. But our dear Jenny has taught me to always look for the easy way to accomplish things, so I came up with a new idea.

What if I put a black border around each block, making them each 14-1/2 by 14-1/2? Then I'd just sew them all together and they'd looked sashed.

What do you think? Will that work? Am I missing anything? I look forward to hearing your advice.
