    Default Scrappy????

Sorry if this is a redundant question. I've done a search but can't seem to come up with a description of "scrappy quilt." Does it just mean your scraps to make a quilt? Is it a method of how you cut your fabric? Or is it something else altogether? Hate to appear so dumb, but hey I am a blonde!!! In any case, I just can't seem to get a grip on what exactly "Scrappy" means as it relates to quilting.

    Hi Carol,
Scrappy means different things to different people. I love scrappy and to me it is both using my scraps up by paper piecing or traditional piecing, depending on the size of fabric. I love the cacophony of color and generally will use a focal solid to bring the blocks together in a harmonious blending to show off the blocks. I like the challenge of making something unique out of bits and pieces.
some folks like to use their charms or jelly rolls as a scrappy look.
It's just different strokes for different folks.

thanks Carol ~ that toe is so ugly and I do believe it will never again fit a shoe! I will be hobbling a few days for sure. Reckon that my Sis will be cooking for a few days. My own personal yay and smile for the beleaguered toe. Go look in my albums in one of the finished projects albums. There are a few projects that are totally scrappy - one is a pineapple style quilt and another is a purse that I utilized lots of small pieces. Have fun with fabric.

I define "scrappy" as anything that you didn't have to go out and buy...made from scraps in your stash. I have some yardages that I would call scrappy...I have had some for 15 years. OK, yes, I am a fabric hoarder!!

Ouch....but hey - sis is doing the cookin....I could go for that in a big way. I'm kinda lucky in that respect though...when the hubs retired he took over the kitchen. I have to bite my tongue sometimes, but I can do that if I don't have to do all the cookin.

Hopping over to look at your albums now.

My understanding is that scrappy means you've used A LOT of different fabrics to make a quilt. They can be bought, exchanged or left-overs from other sewing projects.

To me scrappy means exactly that. Something that is made by using many different fabrics. That can be from a specific line or manufacturer, but to me the true scrappiness of a piece had dozens of different pieces of fabric in it.

For me scrappy is making do with the scraps I have from other projects. This is my scrappy hand pieced carpenters wheel.

To me, scrappy is made from pieces of fabric that are leftovers from other projects - a mish-mash of color, maybe tied together with one central focus fabric.
