Even quilts made from pre-cut packs can be 'scrappy' as each block tends to be different even though the colours tone.

For me picture 1 above (yellow and grey) is hardly scrappy as, from a distance the blocks are very similar - but the string quilt is definately scrappy!

Almost any quilt pattern can be made "scrappy". Many of the Jacob's Ladder quilts are made with only 2 colors, but there is a scrappy one posted on Quilter's Cache. Go to page 2 of the directions & click on Dana's quilt. The Depression Block is designed for scraps. Jenny's String Quilt is a great way to use up various sizes of scraps & strips. I've been using up scraps in a 9 Patch Star. You make a 9-P 6.5" center block, then you can use a dif. fabric for each star point. I also used Jenny's pattern for the Star Spangled Patriotic quilt, but I made my pcs. 3.5" instead of using 5" charms. I used pastel baby fabrics to make a very nice baby quilt. Let your imagination run, & you'll come up with many options for using up those scraps. JCY

So many beautiful quilts show up on a Google image search of scrappy quilts!
Finished is way better than perfect!

Kateskloset....I have a few pieces older than that! about 25 years ago my mom was moving out of a large house and had kind of stopped sewing as much as she did and told me to go through her fabric and take what I wanted. I have two fabrics about 5 yards each, that I still have! No idea what ever to use them for, they are pretty strips, but just don't know what to do with them. but I can't throw them away! I don't do well with strips so that is the main reason I haven't used them but then agian.. use them for what? LOL!!!

I'm not a scrappy quilt person..but as I have learned it... it is literally a quilt made out of scraps....pieces of you yardage that are to small to be used for bigger things. Scraps can be anything smaller than a fat quarter. Fat quarter and up are considered "usable fabric". and scraps can be as small as 2"x2". NOt for sure, but I seem to remember that somewhere I read that they got that name because "back in the day" when fabric was scares...they used every single "scrap" of material they had...whether it be a bit of fabric from the hem of the dress they cut off so the shorter girl could wear the dress or a section of a shirt that was all that was left after it was literrally worn out...like the lower part of the sleeve below the elbow when the shirt's elbow area was worn through and now a hole was there!.

SCRAP QUILTS - Traditional quilting history asserts that the majority of scrap quilts were "make do" projects, quilts constructed from leftover patches in order to be thrifty, and use every scrap of fabric available. Many scrap quilts probably were made in that way, especially during hard times, but perhaps just as many scrap quilts were made by quilters who loved to sew with lots of fabrics.

Can you tell me what pattern you used for your scrappy quilt? Love it and think it would be ideal for using up fat quarters I've been collecting and my new Shape-Cut. Thanks
