    Default Connecting Threads

Just before Christmas, I went through all of my thread. I had many cones from a company I used to work for, and when they closed, I was able to take them. They served me well for a long time, but I noticed the thread was getting weak. I got rid of all of them. My intention is to replace them with the 100% cotton thread from connecting threads. I am not going to buy the cones...they are too large. I am going to start by getting a couple of the thread sets. We are building a shelf to keep my threads and bobbins on.
My question is for those of you who buy thread from them. How tall are the 1200 yard spools of thread? I want to space the shelves based on this size spool. I have regular size spools of thread that I get from Joann's but want my thread collection to be the 1200 yard spools.
Thank you for any help you can give me. Sorry for such a long story for just a simple question.

Their spools of thread are the same size as Aurifil. Just a word of warning......their thread is VERY linty!!

Oh, thanks! I thought everyone had good luck with their threads. How about ThreadArt or Superior. I don't have any Aurifil spools..how tall are they?

Thank you! Are the spools about 2 1/2" tall?

The spools from Connecting Threads are 2 5/8" tall. I don't find their thread to be any more linty than any other all cotton thread and I've used them all. I always go back to CT.

I have star thread from m* and aurifil which are both about 2-1/2". I don't have a lot of experience but I would say try different brands to see what your machine likes. Most of the time I get by with neutral colors

I am not at home to measure, but they are between 2.5 and 3 ". I always use Aurifil in the top and Superior Bottomline for the bobbin. Makes for a good combination!!

I have tons of CT thread and love it. What's better - my machine loves it. I use it both for piecing and for quilting. Yes, it is a bit linty but I clean my bobbin area regularly and have had no problems.

I measured mine and they are 2 1/2" to 2 5/8" tall and about the same diameter as the entire plastic dealie of the Coats& Clark 450 Yd spool.
I have mine on a JuneTaylor thread rack, and they do just fine.
As for the bobbins, I'll either mark the clear plastic with the sharpie marker with the name/number and store it in my bobbin tower, or store the bobbin on the peg under the spool. The dowels aren't long enough to poke up through the spool to catch the bobbin at the top.

I've been pleased with their thread so far, and more importantly, my machine likes it. The price certainly makes it hard to argue with sweeping out the fuzz a little more often.

Best wishes on getting it all organized! It is a great way to start out the new year!

P.S. I have found their fabrics to be nice too. Way better than most of J's & very comparable to the LQS in quality.
