    Default Grace Lavender Charm Pack

I have a couple of questions about the Grace Lavender Charm Pack / the Layer Cake / Yardage .....etc.

Grace Lavender Charm Pack - Mary McGuire - RJR Fabrics

To those of you who possibly have this charm pack, I am wondering if the fabric ( looks bluish to me ) is actually on a purple background like the yardage shown below....or is it different ?

I really l like this fabric, and I am considering it for a quilt for a friend for her 2014 Christmas gift .

If you have any suggestions ....please let me know. I want to make sure that the purple fabric ( yardage ) will match the Charm Pack ( see link above )

Here's the link to the yardage.

IF you have any suggestions for me ( a newbie quilter ) I am all ears ! I want to get the fabrics to match this Grace Lavender......I am thinking about making this quilt with the newest tutorial the Disappearing Pinwheel....

I am also considering ordering the DD charm packs for a Chevron Quilt (???? ) I would like to make a queen size quilt. IF anyone would let me know as to how many Charm Packs to order to make a chevron quilt, I would appreciate it.

Thanks so much to all of you who have given me advice.....I really appreciate it ! :-0)

I think as long as you stay within the confines of the manufacturers "line" it should all match up. It sure is lovely fabric. Good luck.

Do you already have the charm packs? If so, the yardage should match the blue/purple in the collection. If you have doubts, call the shop to verify.

Note: RJR charms and layer cakes have been known to be "off" a little in sizes. Be sure to measure your charms or layer cake before starting your project.

You mentioned that you wanted to use Jenny's new pinwheel tutorial. She did this project with layer cakes (10" squares). If you are planning on using charms (5") you will need a lot more pkgs. and your quilt squares will be very small. You might want to consider another pattern for charm squares. The falling charms quilt would look very nice with these fabrics and a perfect project for new quilters.

Also, you mentioned that you were considering a queen size quilt for your friend. As a new quilter, you will need a lot of room to tackle a queen size, and a throat space on your machine large enough to handle that amount of bulk. The cost of making a queen size is also to be considered. I'd stick with a lap size or twin.

Excellent advice from Sharyn! I echo her advice. Beware of getting in over your head by building a quilt that you can't manage to quilt yourself.

I take larger quilts to someone with a longarm to finish for me. Don't be afraid of making it, if that's what you want. I would suggest paying someone else to finish larger quilts until you've had plenty of practice with free motion though.
I'll have to look at the chevron quilt before giving advice on how much fabric to buy. Be back in a bit...

Using 10 inch layer cakes, you'll need 3 of them for a queen sized chevron. That'll give you 16 rows of 15 blocks.
